What is "AI Search" and how to enable/disable it

What is AI search and why use it?

AI search is a method of searching your files that doesn't rely only on exact keywords. Instead, Curiosity uses AI to search for results that are similar to your search terms. AI search is also called semantic search, vector search, or neural search.

AI search can be useful if you're looking for results but don't know the exact words used there (e.g. if other people wrote the documents).

🔒 The Curiosity app does AI search locally on your computer. None of your data is sent to the cloud.

How do I enable AI search?

To enable AI search:
Go to Preferences in the left sidebar (the cog icon in the lower left)
Select the tab AI search and select Enable from the dropdown

Your data will be re-indexed for AI search. That might take some time and involve heavy computing.

How do I disable AI search?

To disable AI search:
Go to Preferences in the left sidebar (the cog icon in the lower left)
Select the tab AI search and select Disable from the dropdown

If the app is indexing for AI search, it may take some time to stop.

How do I use AI search?

After you enable AI search, the main search bar in the Curiosity app will automatically use AI search by default. If you want to search for just keywords, do a search and click on the "lightening" (⚡️) in the search bar to revert to keyword search.
