Combining keywords in the search bar lets you narrow down your search results.

How to combine keywords in Curiosity?

Combining keywords (AND) Use the ampersand symbol & or the keyword AND to search only for results that include both keywords. If you don't type keywords, Curiosity defaults to combining your search terms with AND. Example: marketing AND plan will find results that include both keywords.

Alternative search terms (OR) Use the pipe symbol | or the keyword OR to match either keyword. Results with both keywords will be ranked higher. Example: marketing OR plan will find results that include either keyword.

Excluding keywords (NOT) Use an exclamation mark ! or the keyword NOT to exclude results that include the keyword. Example: financial NOT investors will find results with financial but exclude ones with investors.

Exact matches ("") Put search terms in quotes "" to find an exact match. Exact matches only returns hits when the search term exactly matches the term in quotes. Example: "budget plan" will return results with budget plan but not budgeting plan or budget planning.

Partial matches () ** Put search terms in asterisks ** to find a partial match. Partial matches are hits where the search term is only part of the word in the result. Curiosity returns partial matches by default if the partial search term matches the beginning of a word in the result (not

Curiosity currently supports searching the names of code files.

Supported file types

Curiosity can search code files with the following extensions: .ps .cs .fs .css .js .class java .c cpp .h php py .sh .bat .swift

Curiosity is a powerful desktop search app that helps you quickly find files, emails, and other important information on your computer. We're excited to have you on board and can't wait to help you get started. 😊

Getting Started

To start using Curiosity, simply download the app from our website and install it on your computer. Once you've installed the app, you can launch it, connect your apps, and begin searching for your files, folders and emails.

Connecting Your Apps

To connect your folders and apps to Curiosity, open the app and click on the + sign next to Apps in the left sidebar. That will take you to a page showing all the apps you can connect. From there, you can select the apps that you want to connect to Curiosity, like you email accounts, cloud drives, and more.

You can learn more about connecting apps in the Connect Apps section of the user guide.

Once you've connected your apps to Curiosity, the app will begin indexing your files and emails. This process may take some time depending on the size of your data, but once it's done, you'll be able to search for your files and emails with ease.

Why connect local folders on your computer to Curiosity?

Your operating system already gives you search for your local files. Nevertheless, connecting folders to Curiosity offers some great advantages. It lets you:

Search in the same place through local folders, emails and cloud apps
Quickly navigate to folders or files by searching them
Save things for later using Spaces without needing to move the file or message

How to connect local folders

When you open the app for the first time, you will be asked whether you want to connect folders on your computer.

To connect a local folder on your computer to Curiosity later:

Click the + button next to Computer in the left menu
Check the folders you want to connect, or select others by clicking Add Others
Click Close

Your folders will appear under Computer in the left bar and your files will be searchable (as soon as they're indexed).

Notes

You can connect a network folder to Curiosity if it's visible as a folder in your file explorer (i.e. mapped as a local drive).

Why use Curiosity as a clipboard manager?

Curiosity works as a clipboard manager to keep track of items that you have copied on your computer.

Connecting your clipboard to Curiosity lets you:

Save things you copied for later (text, links, images)
Search your clipboard
Quickly copy-paste from your clipboard history with the Command bar

How to connect your clipboard

To search your clipboard with Curiosity, you need to enable it under Preferences:

On the left bar, click the cog (⚙️) icon to open Preferences
Scroll down to the section Features
Click the toggle next to Clipboard to activate it

Curiosity will start saving your clipboard entries.

Connect your clipboard to Curiosity

Notes

You can choose for how long the entries should be saved from the cog (⚙️) icon next to Clipboard on the left bar of the app.
Curiosity only starts saving your clipboard entries when you connect it, so it may be empty when you first view it.
Curiosity for clipboard currently supports text, links, and images (in beta).

How to copy a clipboard entry

To copy an entry from your clipboard with Curiosity:

Press Alt + Space (Windows) or ⌥ + Space (Mac) to open the Command Bar
Type Clipboard and hit Enter to open it
Select the item you want to copy with the arrow keys and hit Enter to copy it
