Why doesn’t the AI Assistant answer my questions?

Why doesn’t the AI Assistant answer my questions, e.g. about my Gmail or Drive data?

The AI Assistant uses a method called RAG (Retrieval-Augmented Generation) to answer your questions. This means it first searches your data for documents similar to your question, then uses those results to generate an answer.

What works well

You’ll get good answers when asking about specific documents or topics. For example:

“Summarize my flight confirmation email”

“What’s the main point of this Google Doc?”

“What’s the latest version of the meeting notes?”

These questions work because the assistant can find the right documents, then summarize or explain them.

What doesn’t work (yet)

Questions that require reasoning, sorting or filtering aren’t supported yet. For example:

“When was my last email from Jane?”

“What’s the most recent document I edited?”

“How many emails mention the budget?”

These types of questions need the assistant to do more than just summarize content — they need it to analyze and compare results. That’s something we’re working on, but it’s not available today.
