How to change which file types are indexed
Curiosity can search most common file types, and you can select which ones you want to make searchable under Preferences
.
How to change which file types are indexed for search
To change which file types you want indexed for search:
- In the left bar, click the cog (⚙️) icon to open
Preferences
- Go to the section
File Search
in the left bar - Under
Searchable Types
, click the file type you want to activate/deactivate - You can add more extensions separated by a comma under
Other file extensions
(for example: *.docx, *.xlsx, *.pdf)
Notes
- If you hover your mouse over the file types (e.g.
Slides
,Documents
,Sheets
,Books
etc.), you can see which extensions are included in each category. - You can choose to index certain file types for
Content Search
only on your computer, or only on your apps - just activate/deactivate the corresponding checkbox. - You can determine a date range for files to be indexed under
File content search period
(for example: files updated in the last month, files updated in the last year). - The app can index files up to 250 MB in size, with a few exceptions. For locally stored videos, audio, and zip files, the limit is 25 GB. For apps, the limit is 5 GB.
