How to change which file types are indexed
Curiosity can search most common file types, and you can select which ones you want to make searchable under Preferences.
How to change which file types are indexed for search
To change which file types you want indexed for search:
- In the left bar, click the cog (⚙️) icon to open
Preferences - Go to the section
File Searchin the left bar - Under
Searchable Types, click the file type you want to activate/deactivate - You can add more extensions separated by a comma under
Other file extensions(for example: *.docx, *.xlsx, *.pdf)
Notes
- If you hover your mouse over the file types (e.g.
Slides,Documents,Sheets,Booksetc.), you can see which extensions are included in each category. - You can choose to index certain file types for
Content Searchonly on your computer, or only on your apps - just activate/deactivate the corresponding checkbox. - You can determine a date range for files to be indexed under
File content search period(for example: files updated in the last month, files updated in the last year). - The app can index files up to 250 MB in size, with a few exceptions. For locally stored videos, audio, and zip files, the limit is 25 GB. For apps, the limit is 5 GB.
