Curiosity crashes with antivirus program
Antivirus programs can crash Curiosity
Antivirus programs can cause issues with the Curiosity app. if you're affected, the app may crash and show an error like this:
`Class nameRocksDbSharp.RocksDbException
MessageIO error: NewRandomAccessFile failed to Create/Open:
C:\Users\artem\AppData\Roaming\Curiosity\local\storage\Graph\v000000\--\RocksDbStorage\MosaikGraph/889860.sst:
Operation did not complete successfully because the file contains a virus or potentially unwanted software.'
Solution: Whitelist the app
To solve problems with your antivirus, you can manually whitelist the Curiosity app and data folder.
On Windows, whitelist the following paths (sometimes also called "add exceptions" or "trusted apps"):
- App folder:
%localappdata%\Programs\curiosity
- Data folder: `%appdata%\curiosity\local`
For steps to whitelist files in common antivirus software, follow the instructions in the links below (external websites):
- McAfee antivirus
- Bitdefender
- Norton AntiVirus
- Trend Micro Antivirus
- Avast One
- Microsoft Defender
- Avira antivirus
- Webroot SecureAnywhere AntiVirus
- Sophos Home
- Cytomic / Advanced EPDR
- CleanMyMac by MacPaw
We are working with antivirus companies to get the app whitelisted by default.
For similar crashes on Mac, check the troubleshooting page on CleanMyMac.
